NAACP Holds Ribbon Cutting for Slayed Hair and Beauty Bar
Charles Town, WV — On Tuesday, August 8, the Jefferson County, WV Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for Slayed Hair and Beauty Bar. The ribbon cutting was held at the salon, located at 303 W. Washington St. Charles Town WV, 25414 at 12PM. During the ribbon cutting attendees had the opportunity to learn about the business and celebrate its opening.

“Slayed Hair and Beauty Bar was created with a deep desire to build a multi-generation business. The salon offers workshops and training programs to aspiring hairstylists, providing them with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in the industry,” said salon owner Walayee Ishway.

Slayed Hair and Beauty Bar opened its Martinsburg, WV location in 2018 and celebrated the opening of its second location in Charles Town, WV during the ribbon cutting. Ishway said “they strive to create a positive impact and empower individuals of all backgrounds, ensuring that everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. The salon has been a proud supporter of
the Jefferson County NAACP block party for kids and provides free hair braiding and hair cuts at the event.”

August is Black Business Month, it is a time to recognize Black-owned businesses across the nation, including Jefferson County, WV. This year the Jefferson County, WV Chapter of the NAACP will offer free ribbon cuttings to local Black-owned businesses throughout the month of August.
These ribbon cuttings will honor the progress Black Americans have made economically and pay reverence to those who dared to pursue business ownership in the past in spite of oppressive and life threatening obstacles.
