FREEDOM TRAIL: UNITING IN PEACE MARCH
SUNDAY, JANUARY 15TH, 2017
2:00 PM, MARCH BEGINS AT THE CHARLES TOWN LIBRARY
2:30 PM, SPEAKERS PROGRAM BEGINS AT THE BETTY ROPER AUDITORIUM
CHARLES TOWN, WV
This “Uniting in Peace March” invites the public to march for our values of love and peace. This year, we are seeing an increase in the hatred-fueled violence of racism and we are calling for Jefferson County to be a model of living together in peace and harmony. This March is a continuation of the Jefferson County Branch of the NAACP’s annual Martin Luther King Jr Freedom Trail March, which we first held in 1976, to commemorate and celebrate Dr. King’s legacy.
This year’s March will feature community leaders speaking on Dr. King’s life and legacy.
The march will begin at 2:00 PM at the Charles Town Library (100 E Washington St, Charles Town, WV) to proceed through town to the Betty Roper Auditorium at the Wright Denny School (209 W Congress St, Charles Town, WV) where a speakers’ program will begin at 2:30 PM.
We have invited speakers from the faith, organized labor, political party, and educational world to share their message of peace, harmony and respect regardless of our differences in race, religion, politics, age, and other demographics.
We invite you to attend and invite your family & friends to participate in this March for a more just Jefferson County.
