The Jefferson County NAACP will sponsor a silent and solemn march in observance of the 50th anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr.
The Observance March will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2018. The March will step off at 6:30pm sharp from the intersection of North Samuel Street and East Washington Street in Charles Town, Charles Town Library Area, and proceed to the Martin Delany Opportunity Learning Center School ground located at 300 South Lawrence Street. At 7:05 the time of King’s death, a symbolic candle will be extinguished and a balloon will be released. The church bell will ring 39 time to symbolize the 39 years that King lived. The public is encouraged to come and participate in the march.
No banners are permitted in the march.
The March and program are being sponsored by the Jefferson County NAACP.
